On 17 July, Her Excellency Leontine Nzeyimana, Ambassador of the Republic of Burundi to the United Republic of Tanzania, joined her counterpart, His Excellency Gelasius Byakanwa, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to the Republic of Burundi, at the launch of a free medical treatment program in Dodoma for Burundian children suffering from heart diseases.
Her Excellency Leontine Nzeyimana expressed her sincere appreciation to her Tanzanian counterpart, Ambassador Byakanwa, whose initiative made this philanthropic program possible. The parents of the children who benefited from the program also conveyed their heartfelt gratitude for the high-quality medical care provided free of charge.
On the same occasion, Ambassador Leontine Nzeyimana took part in a guided tour of the various departments of Benjamin Mkapa Hospital. The visit provided an opportunity to gain insight into the hospital’s role as one of Tanzania’s leading referral health facilities, offering a wide range of specialized medical services that have significantly strengthened access to advanced healthcare and reduced the need for many patients to seek treatment abroad.
Beyond providing life-saving cardiac care to Burundian children, this initiative highlights the strong bonds of friendship and solidarity between Burundi and the United Republic of Tanzania. Moreover, it demonstrates the commitment of both nations to placing people’s well-being at the heart of their cooperation.
